On Saturday night the Mustangs gave the game to TCU early, literally.
On the first drive of the game SMU receiver Aldrick Robinson fumbled the ball. TCU recovered and scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive.
The next time SMU had the ball quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell threw an interception that was returned 24 yards for another touchdown.TCU had a 14-0 lead, and enough to win the game.
But they didn’t stop there.
The Horned Frogs would add two field goals before the half ended to take a 20-0 lead into halftime.
After two more touchdowns to start the second half, one off another Mitchell interception, TCU had a 34-0 lead.
The Mustangs would finally get on the board when SMU drove 70 yards in seven plays capped off by a four-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to receiver Cole Loftin.
TCU would score two touchdowns in a quarter once again in the fourth, and capped off a 48-7 win over SMU.
It was the eighth time in nine seasons TCU has beaten SMU with the Mustangs’ only win coming in 2005.
Mitchell finished the game completing 20 of 36 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown. But he also threw two interceptions to bring his season total to 10.
Even with the high number of interceptions head coach June Jones said that he would not look into other quarterback options for Thursday’s game against Tulane.
