Lambda Chi Alpha is looking for a few good women.
The fraternity is hosting its annual Watermelon Bash to benefit the North Texas Food Bank on Thursday and Saturday.
The bash is Lambda Chi’s national philanthropy event.
LXA is hosting a concert on Thursday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. featuring Eleven Fingered Charlie and Ben Rector.
Because of risk management issues, the location is not being named. Lambda Chi philanthropy chair Kit Szybala said the fraternity doesn’t want people driving to and from the event for safety reasons. The fraternity is providing buses to the event.
Saturday’s events will include 15 teams of ten women from sororities. They will be competing in events at Sorority Park from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
The teams will compete in tug of war, a watermelon toss, watermelon over under, slip ‘n slide relay, a watermelon decorating and eating contest.
Tickets for the concert are $10 prior and $15 at the door. All teams of ten must submit a fee of $100. Tickets can be purchased from members of the fraternity. All proceeds will go to the North Texas Food Bank.
Szybala said the fraternity’s goal is to raise $3,000, around the amount the organization has raised in past Watermelon Bashes. However, he noted the previous fundraisers did not include a concert, as this year’s fundraiser does. Szybala said he hopes this element will lead to more donations.
