SMU has amended its social event registration party.
Under new guidelines, organizations will not have to meet with the Social Registration Event Committee if they are hosting events for under 100 invited guests that will not feature alcohol or use buses.
Student Body President Rob Hayden announced the new amended social registration policy at the Student Senate meeting on Tuesday.
Previously, all organizations were required to fill out a registration form and meet with the committee. Hayden said some organizations were upset by this rule because it didn’t seem necessary.
Now those organizations will only have to fill out the registration form.
Student Body Secretary Erika Briceno discussed concerns about the amount of traffic near Sorority Row and the need for a lighted crosswalk.
Briceno said many students had approached her about it, and she hopes to start communication with University Park officials about the concerns next week. Briceno also plans to visit with the Panhellenic council to discuss the matter.
Senate also spoke about upcoming interviews for the new Vice President of Legal Affairs, the Central University Library Committee, senatorial research committees on second-year housing and retention/academic standards, SMU Rides, the new Senate Liaison Program, and funding requests.
Senators voted to approve old business concerning funding for the Voices of Inspiration gospel choir and KPNI radio.
