The University issued a crime alert Tuesday in regards to a burglary that happened off campus at the university owned building at 5538 Dyer St.
Security cameras show two white males wearing baseball caps and hooded sweatshirts entering the building about 11:35 p.m. and burglarizing some computer equipment. The pair left a few minutes later and made off in a dark-colored car.
The case is still an open investigation with SMU PD.
Police officials requested that anyone with information to please contact SMU PD at 214-768-3333 or to report anonymously by calling 214-SMU-2TIP or visiting http://www.smu.edu/2tip.
SMU PD offered tips to prevent such crimes from happening to you. They recommend that you never leave doors or windows unlocked when leaving your residence. Also, if you observe a suspicious or unknown person in or near your office or residence, call police immediately with as detailed a description as possible.
Never let someone you do not know into your house or residence hall. If they say they are visiting someone, tell them to call that person to escort them. And the SMU PD said it is always a good idea to keep serial numbers and descriptions of all valuables in a safe place. This will assist in recovering your items should they be stolen.
