Fresh off a win over TCU at home, and then traveling north to capture the Montana Invitational crown, the SMU volleyball team returns home this weekend to take part in the Doubletree Classic Invitational.
The three other contenders participating in the invitational are Texas State University (3-8), William and Mary (7-3) and Syracuse University (7-2).
SMU plays a doubleheader on Friday against Texas State and Syracuse. The match against Texas State will take place at 1:30 p.m. The Syracuse game begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Mustangs will finish out the invitational by playing the College of William and Mary on Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
Leading the Mustang attack is sophomore Dana Powell, who was recently named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. Powell has already notched seven double-doubles this season, leading C-USA with an average of 4.13 kills per set.
Defensively, SMU has senior Kendra Kahanek up front, averaging over a block every set. In the backcourt is sophomore Sidney Stewart, recently named C-USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her recent efforts in the Montana Invitational.
Stewart recorded 4.78 digs per set last week over the span of four matches, including a dominating 27 digs against Arizona State. For the season, Stewart is averaging 4.11 digs per set.
