Although many loose ends stand in the way of greatness, BuzzBrews provides a dining experience that is fun and original. Located at 4154 North Central Expressway, BuzzBrews is a retro-inspired diner that is open 24 hours and on all major holidays.
The fun atmosphere and unique style attract many customers while the fresh food and diverse coffees make them return. BuzzBrews always seems to be recommended by their patrons. The restaurant’s success is found in the detail. From the images drawn on the walls to the overall feel, BuzzBrews creates a theme that is nostalgic and unforgettable.
From the street, the restaurant appears to be associated with the motel next to it. BuzzBrews is a small, box-like formation near the corner of an inn. Upon further inspection and inquiry, the structure is completely independent from the neighboring complex. The sign is very small and in red letters, and is difficult to spot by travelers on North Central Expressway. The building is stucco with metal roof accents. The most predominant color is beige, found on the exterior walls, and green with red trim on the lower half of the structure. Despite being very close to the street in front of the restaurant, a small amount of landscaping is completed nicely. The cartoon images and neon lights give BuzzBrews the most character of all. The paintings and overall look are reminiscent of comic books and 1960’s art.
Inside, BuzzBrews surprises guests with very modern and sophisticated elements. The overall setup is like a ’50s diner with an elongated bar and booths with stools on the outer rim. Many seating options range from the counter to the booths and tables. There are also many contemporary elements in the space. Nice travertine floors, bright colors on the walls, and metal accents keep the area fresh and up to date. Another nice touch is the lighting. Each fixture is different, giving the main eating area originality and style. The artwork from the outside continues on the inside; giving the customers a blast from the past while they enjoy their meals.
The owners of BuzzBrews are Earnest Belmore and Omar Zuniga. Their inspiration for the restaurant was a product of working for Café Brazil. With the experience and know-how from another 24-hour eatery, the owners perfected the concept and added much more pizzazz and nostalgia. Success has come early for BuzzBrews with a second location off Lemon Avenue to prove it!
The cuisine is focused on breakfast, with Mexican and American choices available as well. The owners also keep the restaurant in the family. Most of the artwork and design was done by Zuniga’s sister-in-law, Amber Zuniga. She characterizes her art as “the ‘Jetsons’ crash with 1960 and pop art.” With the effort and skill of the staff, BuzzBrews fills a niche that no other restaurant can.
The food is an interesting mix of breakfast dishes and regular food. The nopales is a unique choice that shows the chief’s skill in traditional Mexican food. The garlic marbles are small potatoes flavored with herbs and oil that are small enough to pop in your mouth. For typical breakfast food, the pancakes employ diverse flavors that blow other typical pancakes out of the water. Also, the coffee and hot chocolate are delicious and original due to a hint of spice. For the quality and diversity of the menu, the prices are very reasonable. BuzzBrews is definitely a spot you need to check out!
