West’s comments upset
Though relief efforts have shown the best side of Americans, there have been some controversial comments following the hurricane. The most upsetting was the comment made by Kanye West, who claimed that George Bush didn’t like black people, at an NBC charity concert. One couldn’t help but notice that almost all the people outside the Superdome the day before Katrina hit were black, but then again, New Orleans’ population is 70 percent black. Could the federal response have been faster? No doubt. However, Bush didn’t tell them to wait for a day. There are others in charge of relief efforts.
President Bush does care about blacks, as could be seen during his walking tour of the devastation when he hugged two black women. He shouldn’t be attacked on national television by some hip-hop singer who has no idea what he’s talking about.
I know someone who saw this live on NBC and called in to inform that she would no longer be giving to that relief fund because of Mr. West’s comments. West should be embarrassed about what he said and should go on national TV and apologize to President Bush for his obscene comments.
