annual Food for fines drive begins
According to an e-mail from Gillian McCombs, students who still have library fines will get a chance to pay them off with a little holiday generosity.
Central University Libraries are accepting food donations in lieu of payment for fines.
Each can or package of non-perishable food equals a $2 credit toward debt. Participating libraries include Fondren, Hamon Arts Library, the ISEM Reading Room and the Norwick Center for Media and Instructional Technology. The libraries will start accepting donations Monday, Nov. 27 and will stop on Monday, Dec. 18.
The food drive has several exceptions for credit. The waivers don’t apply to lost book charges or processing fees – it only applies to overdue book fines. Fines can’t be waived if they’ve already been sent to the Cashier’s Office for collection. Also, students can’t donate food for future credit.
