The men’s swimming and diving team competes in its final dual meet tonight against Texas A&M. The Mustangs will host the meet, which starts at 7 p.m., in Perkins Natatorium.
This is the second meeting of the squads this season; the last time was at the Art Adamson Invite in College Station where A&M took second and SMU placed third. Last season, SMU won the dual meet against A&M.
SMU is 1-3 in dual meets this season, including two tough meets against top-ranked Texas and Arizona. The Mustangs lost both match-ups, but the team had multiple season-best swims and looked strong against the tough competition. The squad also took first in the Kerr McGee Elite meet held in Oklahoma City.
At the Dallas Morning News Classic earlier this year, the Mustangs broke records left and right. During the 500 free, freshman Maverick Smalley swam a career-best time of 4:33.70, while teammate Shane Milu swam a season-best time of 4:39.61 in the same race. Backstroker Ian Clark posted a new career-best time when he swam a 1:45.70 in the 200. SMU took third behind No. 4 Northwestern and No. 8 University of California-Berkeley.
The Aggies will be SMU’s last opponents before the Conference USA invitational, which will be in Houston this year. The men will compete with the women’s team Feb. 14-17.
