The Mustangs played an up-and-down game on Tuesday against Texas-San Antonio at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs won in three sets over the Roadrunners.
SMU looked like they had each of the games in hand, but were unable to put UTSA away when they had the opportunity. The Roadrunners kept each game close, but were not able to take a game away from the Mustangs.
UTSA was able to reach 20 points in each of the three games but never surpassed 22. The Roadrunners lost in consecutive sets, 30-20, 30-22, 30-20.
Rachel Giubilato and Stefanie Kons each had double doubles for the Mustangs in the win. Giubilato had 16 kills and 13 digs, while Kons notched 33 assists and 10 digs. It was Giubilato’s eighth double double already this season.
The Mustangs also received a solid game from Natalie Peters, who had two aces and several kills. Candice Davis continued to be a strong presence collecting numerous digs.
SMU improved its record to 8-4 before going on the road to New Hampshire. The Mustangs will be competing in their fourth and final tournament before returning home to open up the conference schedule.
