SMU students had the chance to meet two “Real World”cast members — Trishelle Cannatella from the Las Vegas seasonand Clyde “Ace” Amerson from the season in Paris— on Tuesday, in an event sponsored by Program Council.
Students ranging from casual viewers to die-hard “RealWorld” fans filled the Hughes-Trigg Commons. Program Councilchairman Matt Houston hosted a question-and-answer session with thecast members from MTV’s long-running reality television show.Questions ranged from the most embarrassing moments on the show toliving a regular, post-“Real World” life.
Amerson, dressed in his sneakers and Kappa Alpha fraternitybaseball cap, could easily be mistaken as an SMU student as hecandidly answered questions about the drama of the show and hisromantic relationships with the cast members from his season andothers.
Amerson said that the relationship with his ex-girlfriend wasover and gave some advice to the ladies in the audience.
“Kate is actually engaged to some old guy who owns a bunchof hotels or something and won’t return my phonecalls,” he said. “Ladies, that’s one thing toremember when you enter the workforce: older men who offer you jobsare just trying to get into your pants.”
Cannatella was similarly enthusiastic, speaking her mind abouther roommates from Las Vegas and her relationships with them.
“Frank [Roessler, a cast member from Las Vegas,] whoeveryone thought was a nice guy, hooked up with more girls thananyone in the house. I’m serious. He used his‘nice-guy’ image to get girls,” Cannatellasaid.
When asked about her relationship with Steven Hill, a fellowroommate in Las Vegas, and the portrayal of their relationship,Cannatella said that she and Hill were together and”in-love,” but the MTV producers portrayed theirrelationship as a mere hook-up.
Cannatella is currently working with an acting coach and wouldlike to host a show or get into sports broadcasting.
Amerson, who has one hour of class left until he can graduatefrom college, explained that he is not interested in gettinginvolved in the entertainment industry. As for his near-futureplans, he is only certain that marriage and children aren’tin the picture.
“I can hardly take care of a plant, there’s no way Ican take care of a wife right now,” he said.
After the session Amerson and Cannatella stayed to meet withfans, to pose in pictures and to sign autographs.
