The SMU men’s soccer team is ranked eighth in NSCAA/Adidas preseason men’s soccer poll for the 2002 season. The poll was announced by the NSCAA organization on Aug. 22.
The Mustangs finished the 2001 season with a record of 21-1 and was ranked fifth in the final NSCAA/Adidas poll.
Indiana University holds the top spot followed by Stanford, St. John’s, North Carolina and Virginia. The other Missouri Valley Conference school represented in the top 25 is Creighton University at number 19.
SMU opens its regular season against UT Dallas on Friday at Westcott Field. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
The soccer events this week include soccer kick-off luncheon today at Trinity Hall in Mock-ingbird Station at noon. The SMU women’s and men’s soccer team will celebrate the 2002 season at the luncheon.
The event is open to the public and lunch can be purchased at the regular menu price.
Men’s head coach Schellas Hyndman and women’s head coach George Van Linder will discuss the upcoming season.
