Fine Arts Community Live on Thursday nights offers everyone a chance to showcase their fine arts talent.
F.A.C. Live, referred to as “Mic Night” by Meadows students, is an evening show with an open-stage, ready for any SMU community member to perform on.
Mic Night takes place 7 p.m. every Thursday night on the first floor of Mary Hay (in the fine arts community).
Although most of the performances are by Meadows students, Ben Bascombe, Fine Arts Program Coordinator, would like to see more participation from all corners of the Hilltop.
“If you are not part of the Meadows crowd, it’s a great way to meet people outside of the SMU norm,” said fifth-year acting major Ashley Rideaux.
Mic Night began last year and was such a successful program that it carried over to this year.
“We had a very enthusiastic audience,” Bascombe said. “The audience are people’s peers and they’re very empathetic and supportive of the performer.”
Bascombe looks forward to seeing performances including monologues, poetry recitings, solo music performances and vocal performances.
“A group has already approached me with an interest in performing in their band and other students want to do a weekly improv show,” Bascombe said. “I think this year F.A.C. Live will attract even more people.”
“It’s a really great place to try out your new material,” said senior theatre studies major Andy Bothwell. “It’s a great place to meet hot girls, too.”
There are no talent requirements. Students can sign up at Bascombe’s office door on the right side of the first floor of Mary Hay residence hall or call him directly at (214) 768-3038.
Accomodations will be made for students wishing to perform dance skills or plays. Be there tonight!
