SMU earns ‘B’ for green grade

SMU’s Sustainability Report Card for 2011 has been released, raising the campus’ overall green grade up to a “B.”

The rating that was recently released by greenreportcard.org’s compiled data from survey responses to generate grades for areas ranging from  administration to  investment priorities and shareholder engagement.

Our “A” in food and recycling is primarily due to SMU spending over one-third of its food budget on local products and avoiding using trays in cafeterias.

Where the grade really falls, however, is in endowment transparency and shareholder engagement.

Standing at a “C” rating, SMU’s endowment transparency isn’t up to par for greenreportcard.org; however it does make a list of holdings available to trustees, senior administrators and other select members of the SMU community.

SMU received an “F” in shareholder engagement.
