School bells are about to ring for the last time this semester. Law students and undergraduates that are traditionally cramming for year-end testing and papers can be found competing in the intramural softball tournament taking place at the intramural field.
The softball tournament brought together teams to face off for pre-finals games to determine the intramural champion for the spring season.
Six teams hit the field this evening starting play at 8 p.m. Game 1 featured the Twin Babies vs. Hung Jury. These two teams consisted of second and third-year law students. Hung Jury was the victor of this match, defeating its opponent 16-10.
Ryan Heine, coach and captain of the Twin Babies said his team hit the ball fairly well, but they had a sub-par day in the field.
“The hung Jury is the best team offensively we have played,” Heine said. “They do not make a lot of mistakes.”
Many intramural teams stated that this year’s game schedule was better than last years.
“Our games were scheduled before finals this year,” Heine said. “Last year we were forced to play our playoff games during finals week.”
R.B.’s Chicken Skins defeated the Braves easily in a 12-6 game. The Chicken Skins are second-year law students who had no trouble winning against the Braves, made up of first-year law students.
Mike Mortenson, coach and captain of the Chicken Skins, is confident in going into round two of the playoffs tomorrow.
“Our defense, is playing solid, and all our opponents have not been able to get anything past our infield,” Mortenson said.
Hung Jury faces R.B.’s Chicken Skins at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Game three featured The Glove Box vs. Doi’s Boys. The glove Box are third-year law students, and Doi’s Boys team consist of SMU soccer team members. Doi’s boy’s narrowly defeated the Glove Box 9-8 with the help of stronger soccer legs. Varsity soccer player Bryan Doi led the team as its captain.
The Doi’s Boys opponent will be announced tomorrow for its game with a 9 p.m. start on the intramural field.
