Have you been to the Hughes-Trigg Student Center lately? In the typical student rush to get to a meeting, grab some food or hurry to class, it is always useful to check a clock to ensure progress is being made towards the goal of being on-time. Now, there are various means of checking a clock – a watch, a cell phone, a friend or the ever-present wall clock – all should produce roughly the same time. But lately in the Student Center there has been some trouble telling time by relying on the wall clocks. Each of the clocks seems to be permanently stuck at 3:40.
Have no fear – the staff has identified the problem. All of the clocks in the student center run on the same system. The part that keeps the system operating has broken. So, a new part has been ordered and as soon as it arrives the time will be corrected and everyone will be able to once again rely on the accuracy of the clocks.
The clocks have been out of commission now for about a week and a half. There is no definite time period that specifies when the clocks will be fixed. A conscientious student would therefore make sure he has at least one alternate form of telling time if his presence is required at a specific hour. Finals are a mere seven days away, and it is doubtful that any teacher would find the excuse that you thought it was 3:40 acceptable.
Despite being a little irritating and a little humorous at the same time, the broken clocks are merely a small detraction from the overall quality of life here at SMU. Like, for sure.
