According to 1UP.com, game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) intends to publish as many original games in 2009 as the company did in 2008. This assurance comes in the wake of the company downsizing 1,100 employees and closing 12 studies worldwide.
As 1UP.com notes, last year EA attempted to scale back its reliance on existing franchises and licenses, pushing more original properties such as “Mirror’s Edge” and “Dead Space.” Although the titles did not perform to expectations in sales, EA pledged to continue new franchises, confirming an eventual sequel to “Mirror’s Edge” and a Wii version of “Dead Space.”
EA’s next round of original software will include “Dante’s Inferno,” a third-person, action game taking inspiration from the classic text of the same name and Dragon’s Age, a fantasy role-playing game adventure from developer Bioware, 1UP.com reported.
