Visiting Artist Lecture Series
In support of his project “The Atlas Group,” Cooper University Associate Professor Walid Raad will converse with Assistant Professor of art Noah Simblist and Sarah Rogers, the Eleanor Tufts Fellow in art history at SMU. Raad’s work utilizes video, photography and literary essays to take a look at the history of war in Lebanon, where Raad is from. His work documents physical and psychological aspects of the violence in the country. The lecture/discussion will be held Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bob Smith Auditorium and is free to attend. Meadows Museum Thursday Evening Lecture
Dr. Phil Perkins, head of the department of classical studies at Open University in London, will give a free lecture Feb. 12 in correlation with the current Etruscan exhibit in Meadows Museum. Perkins will discuss the origin of the Etruscans, whether they came from modern-day Turkey, or were indigenous to Italy. The lecture will also focus on current DNA analysis advancements and their ability to shed light on the mystery of the Etruscans. Perkins will give his lecture in the Bob Smith Auditorium in Meadows Museum at 6 p.m. For more information, call 214-768-4677.
Comini Lecture Series
Assistant Professor of art history at UT Dallas Dr. Mark Rosen will look at the phenomenon of the “observer figure” in European city views between 1400 and 1600. His lecture, entitled “Views Viewership in Early Modern Venice,” will be presented in the O’Donnell Auditorium of the Owen Arts Center on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. The lecture is free, but reservations are required. Meadows Music
Meadows presents “Keyboard Festival,” six piano and organ concerts which will occur over the course of nine days. These concerts feature music faculty, guest artists and students from the Meadows School Division of Music. Here is the schedule for the festival:
Feb. 12 – Recital by Dr. Carol Leone, Associate Professor of piano and Chair of the Keyboard Dept., with other SMU music faculty and friends in a tribute to Franz Joseph Haydn
Feb. 17 – 80th Birthday Concert for long-time Professor of piano Alfred Mouledous, featuring piano duets with Mouledous, students and alumni
Feb. 18 – Recital by Alessio Bax, Adjunct Lecturer and international concert artist, including works by Berio, Liszt and Dvorak
Feb. 19 – Piano Duo recital with music faculty Catharine Lysinger and David Karp and four Artist Certificate students, performing Beethoven, Poulenc, Schubert and Rachmaninov
Feb. 21 – Piano Duo recital with music faculty and special guests, including Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung; Alfred Mouledous and Lucille Chung; and Carol Leone and Regan Smith
Feb. 23 – Organ Recital by Dr. Christopher Anderson, Associate Professor of sacred Music, featuring the music of Max Reger and Gyorgy Ligeti
Meadows Museum
The Gates Restaurant inside Meadows Museum is running a Valentine’s Day special this week until Feb. 13. For $24.95 a person, the restaurant offers a choice of lobster ravioli and Caeser salad, or surf and turf, a petite steak with jumbo crab cake, chipotle mashed potatoes, roasted corn, and a chipotle honey remoulade.
