“Jelykunda”
Master dancer, drummer and musician Moussa Diabate will be on campus for a free lunchtime performance. See Diabate and his group “Jelykunda” present African music and dance on April 22 in Taubman Atrium in the Owen Fine Arts Center. Moussa has toured with the National Ballet Djoliba and the National Theatre of Dakar’s Ballet Silimbo, and has performed around the globe. For more information call 214-768-1951.
Meadows Music
Meadows Jazz Orchestra
Akira Sato directs the Meadows Jazz Orchestra as they perform on April 23 at 8 p.m. in the Greer Garson Theater. The orchestra will perform such works as “Four” by Miles Davis, “Cheesecake” by Dexter Gordon, “Bernie’s Tune” by Bernie Miller, and original pieces as well. The concert is free for all to attend. Meadows Wind Ensemble
“The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics”
The closing concert of the Meadows Wind Ensemble’s season is April 24. The concert features Meadows School Associate Dean and Professor of Theatre Kevin Paul Hofeditz as narrator, and Professor of Music Samuel Holland as pianist. The program will also feature a performance of Milhaud’s “La creation du monde,” and Martinu’s “Concertino for Cello and Winds.” The ensemble performs in Caruth Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $7 for SMU students, faculty and staff.
“Meadows Ball 2009:
Superheroes
and Supervillains”
Dress up as a superhero or supervillain, grab some food and have some fun at this year’s Meadows Ball on April 25. DJ Lo from 97.9 The Beat will provide music, alongside a raffle and the crowning of this year’s Meadows King and Queen. The ball starts at 9 p.m. in Taubman Atrium in the Owen Arts Center and lasts until midnight. Admission is $5.
Meadows Art
The McKinney Avenue Contemporary will present art from Meadows Faculty including Susan Barnett, Peter Beasecker, Rebecca Carter, Du Chau, Charles DeBus, Carola Dreidemie, David Dreyer, Barnaby Fitzgerald, Debora Hunter, Bill Komodore, Peter Ligon, Michael O’Keefe, Larry Scholder, Noah Simblist, Jay Sullivan, Philip Van Keuren and Mary Vernon. The exhibit will be held through April 25 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and is free to attend.
