By combining two of American’s favorite pastimes, golf and football, SMU strives to make a difference in the futures of Dallas’ youth.
On Aug. 22 from 4 – 6 p.m., the corporate community program “Little Mustangs, Big Hearts” will host its first annual putt-putt fundraiser: Putt with the Ponies.
The proceeds from this event will allow for grade school children enrolled in the Dallas Independent School District to attend SMU football games this fall. For every two guests putting at $10 each, one student will be able to cheer on the Mustangs at a home game.
The hope behind this event is that students who normally would not consider a college education will now be introduced to the idea of collegiate athletics and experiences.
Head football coach June Jones has shown his support for the program by donating two signed jerseys that will be raffled off and allow even more children to attend the games. SMU athletics representative Anne Patterson sees the events as “a great way to kick off the season and get everyone excited about football.”
For those looking for a way to encourage the fledgling event, but would rather participate in another common Dallas pastime, swing by the Lily Pulitzer of North Park mall on Aug. 21 to do some shopping. “Little Mustangs, Big Hearts” will receive 10 percent of the boutique’s earnings for that day.
By supporting the fundraiser and experiencing the three putt-putt courses Top Golf Dallas has to offer, community members are making a difference, honing their golf skills and getting ready for the football fever that is sure to hit SMU this fall.
