Students have been counting down the days until fall break since the semester started, and now it’s finally here.
Midterms have had students spending countless hours in the library, studying all week and anticipating the much-deserved four-day weekend.
If you haven’t already caught the first flight out of Dallas after your classes ended, Ed Board believes you should stick around in Dallas for the break.
Fall break is held during the Texas State Fair and the Red River Shootout, the annual face-off between the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma.
Ed Board strongly encourages everyone in town to attend the Texas State Fair at least once over the break.
According to the Texas State Fair Web site, it offers visitors a range of exhibits, entertainment and services that are unmatchable by any annual exposition in North America.
This year, the fair’s entertainment includes amusement rides, music, livestock exhibitions, eating contests, BMX shows, auto shows, pig races and much more.
There’s definitely something for everyone.
If you decide to attend the fair, you can’t leave without trying some type of fried concoction. The newest addition to the fried food tradition is a fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Yummy!
Ed Board advises you to use purchase your tickets in advance, because the fair can get extremely pricy and pre-purchasing tickets can save you a little bit of money.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at all Kroger checkout counters for $11.50. There are also discount coupons at McDonald’s, so grab one next time you’re ordering that Big Mac.
In addition to all the tourists and Dallas natives attending the fair, Texas and OU football fans will flock to Dallas this weekend for the Red River Shootout, and they will bring the party with them. So, be prepared, especially since fans will be celebrating the 100th year of the tradition.
Ed Board wants you to mingle with these fans and show them a good time while they’re in Dallas. Texas and OU fans will literally take over the Dallas weekend nightlife scene, so get ready to meet some Longhorns and Sooners.
If you don’t feel like venturing out of the house this weekend, however, then feel free to take it easy. This is your weekend to kick back, relax and do absolutely nothing.
Ed Board encourages you to appreciate and enjoy this time off from school, because there’s not another break until Thanksgiving.
