The 2009 class of the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame was announced Wednesday. The SMU Department of Athletics, together with the SMU Lettermen’s Association introduced Eric Dickerson, Jim Krebs, Steve Lundquist and Kyle O’Brien Stevens as the four inductees of the 2009 class.
The four newest members will be honored at an induction ceremony on Friday, May 1 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
Eric Dickerson is a former All-American football player and a part of the famous “Pony Express.” He helped lead SMU to back-to-back Southwest Conference titles and is already a member of the Professional Football Hall of Fame.
Jim Krebs is a former All-American basketball player who helped lead SMU to the 1956 Final Four. He led the Mustangs to three Southwest Conference titles and played professional basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Steve Lundquist is a former All American swimmer and two-time Olympic gold medalist. He was named the U.S. Swimmer of the Year in 1982, and is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
Kyle O’Brien Stevens is a former All American women’s golfer. She led SMU to the AIAW National Championship title in 1979. In 2003, she was inducted into the National Golf Coaches Association Player Hall of Fame.
