On July 5 SMU Police Chief Richard Shafer announced an SMU Police officer has gone missing while working off-duty at a construction site.

According to the email, the Highland Park Department of Public Safety reported the police officer was “working as a private security guard at a construction site when he and his car were swept away by high water” near Turtle Creek in Highland Park.

The Dallas Fire-Rescue and SMU Police Department are currently working together for this search and rescue effort.

Chief Shafer thanked neighboring police and fire departments and rescue crews for their efforts. He said in a email: “our prayers and thoughts are with the officer’s family members and other loved ones as the search continues.”

The Daily Campus will provide updates as soon as it becomes available.
