In a span of 48 hours, SMU fans went from shocking disappointment to confidence. Which makes sense, considering the roller-coaster of emotions this season has been. Saturday’s 68-57 win at Tulsa may be the high point. The Mustangs handed Tulsa its first loss in nearly two months after suffering an ugly upset loss to Cincinnati just two days earlier.

Fans weren’t the only ones to experience the roller coaster. Nic Moore broke a 6-of-27 slump with a 23-point, seven-assist night. Yanick Moreira helped pick up the front court with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

But the win didn’t come with a bit of adversity. Markus Kennedy made way to many mental mistakes en route to scoring just two points and fouling out with four minutes to go.

And worst of all, Nic Moore was grimacing and favoring his lower body late in the game. He left for a brief stretch in the second half with what looked like a lower-leg injury.

Strangely enough, Moore’s short absence sparked SMU to a game-changing 15-0 run. He exited after Tulsa used a 9-2 run to tie it 43-43 with 12 minutes left, but the Mustangs responded with a 15-0 run. Tulsa wouldn’t score again until 4:36 left, when “S-M-U” chants rang through the Reynolds Center.

Tulsa (17-6, 10-1) still holds first place in the AAC by a half-game after the loss. James Woodard led the Golden Hurricane with 15 points.

SMU moved to 19-5 and 10-2 in the AAC, 1.5 games ahead of third-place Temple and Cincinnati. The Mustangs play at Houston next on Thursday at 8 p.m.
