1 – One is the only number that can describe SMU men’s basketball’s Nic Moore. Moore was named the AAC Player of the Year on Thursday after also being selected a unanimous first-team all-league player. Moore is the eighth Mustang to ever receive the Player of the Year award and the first since 2003. Moore leads the AAC in free throw percentage and in three-point percentage, while he is second in assists and fourth in scoring. Moore tops his teammates in free throw percentage, assists, scoring, and also in minutes, as he plays an average 34 minutes per game. Moore’s teammates Yanick Moreira and Markus Kennedy also received the AAC titles of Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year Player.
2 – The number of practices SMU football’s new coach Chad Morris has led so far. Spring ball started on Tuesday and it marked the beginning of the Chad Morris era. Anticipation for spring football to begin was high considering the terrible 1-11 season the Mustangs are trying to bounce back from. The team has a spring game scheduled for April 18 at 1 p.m. and fans will be able to meet coaches and players after the game.
6 – The SMU men’s basketball team clinched the sixth seed in the NCAA tournament’s South division with a win over UConn on Sunday. The team won both the regular season AAC title and the AAC tournament title, which makes their sixth seed seem a little controversial. However, the Mustangs love to play with a chip on their shoulder and that should help them defeat 11th seeded UCLA on Thursday. The team left for Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon after having played and won three games away in Connecticut this past weekend. Catch the Mustangs battle it out against the Bruins on Thursday on the Tru channel at 2:10 p.m.
34 – The SMU men’s tennis team is now ranked 34th in the NCAA, which is its highest national ranking since the 2004 season when the team went to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Number 34 ranked SMU men’s tennis are set to host No. 31 ranked Oklahoma State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the new SMU Tennis Complex. The Mustangs’ 15-2 record is the program’s best through 17 matches since 2001.
74 – The SMU women’s tennis team won two matches away in Hawaii led by AAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Dasha Sharapova. Sharapova’s singles record is now 18-7 after she helped the team take down No. 64 Hawaii and Cal State Fullerton. After the two wins in Honolulu, SMU is now ranked 74 in the NCAA. Sharapova and the rest of the Mustangs will return to the court at the new SMU Tennis Complex on Friday with a 3 p.m. match versus New Mexico.
