Baseball has had its history at SMU since 1979, but a valuable piece of baseball history is on display at the George W. Bush Presidential Center this summer.
A T206 Honus Wagner baseball card, one of the rarest and most valuable pieces of sports memorabilia, is on display as part of the center’s special exhibit “Baseball: America’s Presidents, America’s Pastime.”
The American Tobacco Company produced the T206 baseball card series from 1909 to 1911 and distributed them in packs of cigarettes. Wagner’s card is the rarest, since he requested that his image not be included in the packs and associated with a tobacco company. He was one of the first five players inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
“Baseball: America’s Presidents, America’s Pastime: is on display in the Bush Center until August 17. Entrance to the exhibit is included with museum admission fee.
