Meadows Museum explores history of Europe’s Alba family

The works of Francisco de Goya, Marc Chagall and more are making their way to SMU this fall.

The Meadows Museum’s Treasures from the House of Alba: 500 Years of Art and Collecting opens Friday, Sept. 11.

The exhibit, which is part of the Meadows Museum’s 50-year anniversary commemoration, features 130 collected works from Spain’s Alba family, curators of one of Europe’s finest art collections.

Divided into themes, the collection explores topics such as “Seville-Paris-Madrid: The Empress Eugénie de Montijo and the House of Alba” and “Stuart-Berwick-Alba: The Union of Two European Lineages in the Eighteenth Century.”

According to the Meadows Museum, this is the first exhibition of its kind, exploring the art and history behind the Alba family.

The exhibit ends Jan. 3, and admission is free for SMU students, faculty and staff.
