The SMU men’s and women’s tennis teams combined to go undefeated over the weekend, improving to 16-5 and 9-6 respectively.
The women started the weekend with a win over Houston at Turpin Stadium on Mar. 19. Hristina Dishkova and Dasha Sharapova teamed up to beat the Cougars’ No. 2 pair 6-1, earning the Mustangs the first point of the match. The Mustangs improved to 9-0 at home, where they will play five of their next six matches. Head Coach Kati Gyulai earned her 50th career victory in her time on the Hilltop.
The men’s team continued the dominant weekend with a home win over Dartmouth later on Saturday. The effort required a third-set tiebreaker in the No. 6 singles match, in which Yates Johnson defeated Eddie Grabill 6-3 to earn the fourth point and seal a 4-3 victory. SMU won the doubles point and Ronald Slobodchikov and Nate Lammons added the other two singles wins 6-2, 7-6 and 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 respectively.
The Mustangs swept Sunday’s contests over Marquette and Texas-Permian Basin. The team did not drop a singles or doubles contest in either match, winning 4-0 against both teams. They are now ranked No. 44 nationally as they travel to No. 6 Oklahoma State on March 26.
