Jennifer Lawrence wore a plunging black Versace dress despite the cold weather to a Red Sparrow photo call Tuesday in London.

While her male counterparts bundled up in heavy coats, Lawrence was shamed for her revealing fashion choice. People stated that by wearing a dress in the cold, she was reaffirming that sexism in Hollywood still exists.

According to Vogue, Lawrence’s look affirmed her statement that she has taken ownership of her sexuality due to her role in Red Sparrow. In the midst of sexist, ridiculous and anti-feminist remarks, Lawrence fought back.

“That Versace dress was fabulous, you think I’m going to cover that gorgeous dress up with a coat and a scarf? I was outside for 5 minutes. I would have stood in the snow for that dress because I love fashion and that was my choice,”Lawrence said.

Many issues regarding feminism and “slut shaming” have recently emerged due to the growing number of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood.

“Slut shaming” has been prevalent in society for years; however, according to Her Campus, “it has somewhat exploded with the use of social media.” Since millennials are heavy users of social media, “slut shaming” and anti-feminist behavior are not only seen in the workplace, but are also common on college campuses.

Feminist initiatives on the SMU campus are actively fighting sexism and are places for open discussions about these topics. To get involved in the conversation about feminism, there are various organizations on campus to join such as Not On My Campus and the Feminist Equality Movement.
