The Queen sported a Swarovski covered powder blue skirt suit and black accessories to British Designer Richard Quinn’s runway show. Angela Kelly, the Queen’s personal advisor and dressmaker, accompanied the monarch to the show. The Queen’s surprise appearance was quickly realized after the show, when she presented Quinn with the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design.
According to CNN, the award, which was designed by Kelly, will be presented annually to “an emerging British fashion designer who shows talent and originality,” who exemplifies the standards of the British fashion community.
Quinn, a recent graduate from Central Saint Martins in 2016, quickly made a name for himself in the industry. In addition to creating his own label, Quinn runs a print studio in London that is open to other designers and college students. His quick transition from student to famous designer is inspirational for SMU students who are pursuing careers in fashion.
SMU sophomore Erika Fanuzzi revealed her excitement about Quinn’s success.
“It’s amazing what Quinn has accomplished in this amount of time,” Fanuzzi said. “He serves as an inspiration not only to designers but recent college graduates pursuing their dreams and striving for success.”
