The Alpha Pi chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, a business fraternity at SMU, had their biannual induction on Feb. 21 in the Edwin L. Cox School of Business.

The pledges were supposed to dress in business professional attire; however, because of the rain the executive board decided that the inductees could wear whatever was best suited for the weather.

During induction, the new pledges got the chance to meet most of the executive board and other active members.

Rachel Tomlinson, who is on the executive board as service chair, was happy to see all the new pledges and active members come together.

“My favorite part about induction is seeing all of the new pledges that will become part of the brotherhood soon,” Tomlinson said.

SMU sophomore Sarah Walden is a new inductee who is excited to become more acquainted with the other members of the fraternity. Walden loved the diversity of people Alpha Kappa Psi brought together.

“It was exciting to see all of these new people who I’m going to become close with this semester,” Walden said. “I enjoyed seeing so many different types of people from all over campus coming together.”

According to their website, Alpha Kappa Psi was founded in 1904 “on the principles of educating its members and the public to appreciate and demand higher ideals in business and to further the individual welfare of members during college and beyond.”

Students join this fraternity in hopes of new friendships, to learn more about the business world and how to build his or her resume and to take advantage of networking opportunities.
