The menswear calendar is dwindling with so many brands opting for mixed-gender shows. However, Men’s Fashion Week is still relevant for seeking out the hottest menswear trends for the upcoming seasons. In addition, the absence of big designers who have gone co-ed actually gives more room to all the fresh talent; rest assured, there is plenty. From New York to Paris, here are some of the top shows from Menswear Fall 2018.
Justin O’Shea’s label SSS World Corp did not disappoint at Paris Fashion Week. The collection was a rock ‘n’ roll party — think silk, sequins, metallic and death motifs. One of the best looks featured a lavender and green silk Hawaiian shirt with matching shorts. The show was sexy, brazen and definitely bordering on over-the-top.
Tom Ford’s menswear label was another hit at Fashion Week. Models wore skinny pants, snakeskin prints, satin and lamé fabrics and glitzy jackets, but they still looked masculine. The form-fitting garments were impeccably constructed. Tom Ford also launched a new line of watches and his underwear collection in nude tones. Kiko Kostadinov is a menswear designer who defines British fashion. His business doubled after last season, and this season proved the label will only continue to grow. The Bulgaria-born designer successfully combined color blocking with carefully architected trousers and jumpers. The models wore blonde wigs, adding to the show’s sexy, youthful vibe.
Lucas Ossendrijver, the Dutch designer behind Lanvin menswear, delivered yet another deliberate show. The collection commenced with a dark, pleated overcoat leading to a procession of plain, checkered and striped versions of rebuilt suits. The collection was not entirely formal; the look shifted toward casual with camouflage prints and fleece V-neck vests. It was a display of beautiful, masculine clothing.
Inspired by her Iranian heritage, Paria Farzaneh used a combination of British tailoring and 70s Iranian clothing to create 12 different looks. She showed the collection in the basement of a Persian restaurant in West London. In a society that doesn’t understand the Middle East, the collection was refreshing and perhaps even a celebration of Iranian culture.
Several trends emerged from Men’s Fashion Week all over the globe. However, the editors of GQ, Hypebeast, and Vogue agree that buttoned-up suits, bright colors, reflective patches and oversized sweaters will be key elements to add to your wardrobe in the fall of 2018.
