An SMU student was robbed at gunpoint Sunday evening at the Bank of America on Greenville Avenue near Lovers Lane. The robbery marks the third robbery on or near the SMU campus in the last 47 days.
The student was in her car at the Bank of America ATM when a black man wearing black clothing and a black ski mask pointed a handgun at her and demanded she withdraw $100 in cash.
The suspect took the money and ran off. The student was unharmed and reported the robbery to the Dallas Police Department.
The suspect is was in his early 20s. He was 6’2″ and weighed close to 200 pounds.
The SMU Police advises students to avoid ATMs after dark.
“If you try not to put yourself in that position then maybe it won’t happen,” said Interim Police Chief Richard Shafer.
If it is necessary to go to an ATM, take a friend and be aware of the surroundings.
