Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders underwent heart surgery on Tuesday in Las Vegas due to a blocked artery. He had two stents inserted.

78-year-old Sanders had been experiencing pain and discomfort, so he sought medical attention. In pervious physicals, there were signs of high cholesterol but never any heart condition.

Future events and appearances have been cancelled to allow time for recovery.
