The Dr. Bob Smith Health Center now has dental services on campus.
“I just remember being a student…if I had a major toothache, I couldn’t study, you know, um I couldn’t go out and socialize with a dirty mouth so I definitely–it’s definitely a great way, a great outlet to go to for students, staff and faculty,” said Dentist James Ki Lee.
Along with regular dental cleanings, Campus Smiles also offers fillings, whitening, extractions, and more.
“I wanna help somebody have pretty teeth and always get complimented so whenever I get to see that from beginning to end…it’s awesome man, it’s awesome,” said Dental Assistant Tania Garcia.
Campus Smiles knows that students are busy and they do their best to work around class, other activities, and their budget.
“So we have an awesome manager, her name is Jennifer, uh she takes care of all the budgeting the financial situations, I have no say in that. I just take care of what needs to be taken care of…but Jennifer will work with the students,” said Lee.
“They know how to talk to students, where is if I went off campus, they might treat me differently…where as here they treat me with respect and respect my schedule,” said SMU Graduate Student Elena Grace Smith.
Having a dentist office on campus allows students to just walk right in between their classes in order to get things fixed quickly.
“You know, a healthy mouth is a, is an opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle and that’s my passion and that’s the passion that I want to give to patients…and I want them to enjoy that passion as much as I do,” said Lee.
The SMU Health Center hopes to have a student dental shadow program by the spring of 2020.
