Ware Commons brings the Mardi Gras food, fun, and festivities to campus this Saturday.
Krewe du Ware is a Mardi Gras themed celebration, complete with beignets and crawfish. Ware Residential Community Director, Maria Schoppa, said that the Ware Commons Council has been working on the event since October.
“Our Exec Board serves as the planning committee, but everyone involved in Commons Council definitely plays a huge part in the planning of Krewe du Ware,” Schoppa said. “They know what our students hope to see, and many of the Commons Council members have brought new ideas that we have never done before.”

Schoppa said that the fresh beignets were a huge hit last year, but food isn’t the only thing that attracts students to the event.
“In the tradition of Mardi Gras, we will have lots of king cake,” Schoppa said. “We will also have some Mardi Gras trivia, mask decorating, face painting and street performers.”
Per tradition, Ware residents also nominate students from each floor to represent them on a court at the event. Once the nominees are chosen, they are voted on by Ware residents.
Voting will take place in the Ware Family Room on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. The winner is announced at Krewe du Ware.
Court nominee Claire Schmidt was chosen by her fourth floor peers.
“I’m thrilled for Krewe du Ware,” Schmidt said. “I think it will be a great showcase of the Ware spirit.”
