Both men’s and women’s basketball teams spent mostof the holiday on the road. Currently holding the WAC’slongest winning streak, the women’s team (7-6, 3-1) shot upto second place in the WAC. The men (7-6, 1-2) struggled inconference play to land tied at fifth with UTEP and Boise St.
The women’s team endured a seven-game road trip to go 4-3.They came out with wins over San Diego State (64-55), North Texas(70-66), Maine (44-43) and Tulsa (64-72). The three losses came toSouthern California (48-64), New Hampshire (62-63) and Rice(60-78).
The women’s first conference home game against Fresno St.was successful (67-62), as was the Saturday game against Nevada.Led by Kaira White with a career-high 21 points, the team downedthe Wolf Pack (1-3, 2-12) 70-62.
The men started the holiday break with a home game against WakeForest (9-0) but fell short 40-58. The Mustangs next took onAppalachian State at home falling 82-85.
The Mustangs played in the Boilermaker Invitational at Purdue.In the first round the Mustangs, led by sophomore BryanHopkins’ career-high 35 points, defeated Miami (OH) 66-55. Inthe championship, the Mustangs up-ended Purdue (10-3) after alast-minute Purdue shot fell short.
The Mustangs endured two more road games, beating Navy 68-54 butfalling to Oklahoma St. 54-89. Starting conference play at home,the Mustangs stomped Tulsa (4-7, 0-2) 67-58. On a two-gameconference road trip the Mustangs fell to Fresno St. (7-5, 3-0)53-54.
The Mustangs next took on the WAC preseason favorite, Nevada(9-4, 3-1), losing74-84.
The Lady Mustangs challenge Hawaii (1-2, 3-9) Thursday inHonolulu. The Mustangs take on Hawaii (10-3, 2-1) in Moody Coliseumon Thursday.
