The SMU Women’s Soccer team defeated the University of Alabama-Birmingham 2-1 Sunday evening.
The Mustangs struck early in the 17th minute when senior defender Kaitlyn Eidson scored off the assist from sophomore defender Courtney Smith. Smith picked up her second assist of the game only a minute later when sophomore defender Katie Bass headed the ball in off of Smith’s free kick.
The Mustangs held the 2-0 lead until the 40th minute when Birmingham’s senior forward Tiffini Turpin scored, assisted by sophomore defender Sam Bradford.
Although the two teams were even in shots, corners, and fouls, SMU escaped with the edge in the final score.
The win improves the women’s record to 8-5-1 and 4-1-1 in Conference USA.
The squad’s next game is Friday night at 7:00 p.m. on SMU’s Westcott Field against the Marshall Thundering Herd.
