This Saturday during SMU’s family weekend, the Mustangs will take on Northwestern State Demons at Ford Stadium.
The Demons come off an embarrassing 49-3 loss to LSU last weekend, while the Mustangs gained a 28-17 victory over the UTEP Miners.
Demons Head Coach Bradley Peveto graduated from SMU in 1986. Peveto later on became the assistant coach for LSU.
According to NSUdemons.com, Coach Peveto said, “They both [SMU and LSU] have special places in my heart, but for one week, I am rooting against SMU just like I was rooting against LSU only last week.”
The Mustangs main concern remains the quarterback position. Although J.J. McDermott continued to put up some good numbers, he did throw some bad passes and had an interception. These are the same weaknesses which put Kyle Padron on the bench against Texas A&M. During the UTEP game, Padron came in for a few plays, including one that led to a 12-yard rushing touchdown.
The Demons have a few players that could be of concern to the Mustangs on Saturday. SMU defense should have no problem with one of the three Demons captains, senior running back Sterling Endsley since the Mustangs rush defense has been on lockdown thus far.
However, McDermott may have to worry about the Demons other two team captains, senior cornerbacks Cashus Pollard and Jeremy Lane.
Zach Line may also have to keep a strong eye out for freshman defensive end, Keland Johnson, who is known for doling out some big hits.
