While football parents gear up with red and blue apparel for FordStadium, SMU Rower parents will suit up for a ride on White Rock Lake this Saturday.
Family members will be able to part-take in a typical practice day for the SMU Rowing team.
The team will compete in numerous events this fall starting with their debut meet or “Regatta” on Sept. 30.
The event is an all day affair consisting of 5000-meter headraces.
Although this weekend consists of no competitions, it’s a challenge for parents to gain a first-hand experience of what their daughters’ encounter everyday.
“I am super excited for the Regatta…we practice twice a day everyday minus Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 5:30 am! We are really hopeful and working hard to reach our goal,” sophomore rower Lauren More said.
The rowing athletes appreciate the home-away-from home atmosphere since the majority of their meets are away.
Earlier in the year SMU Rowing team has propelled waves of success beyond the lake by earning the title of Conference
USA Sport Academic Award. The Mustangs combined for a 3.215 GPA overall. They finished fourth at the San Diego Crew classic in April and took the same spot in the Oklahoma Invitational.
