According to CBSSports.com, Big East commissioner John Marinatto contacted officials at SMU and Houston about further joining the league.
Marinatto held a teleconference Tuesday afternoon with the media to discuss the Big East expansion.
Joe Schad, ESPN’s National College Football Reporter, live-tweeted the conference. According to Schad, the Big East said it cannot publicly identify the targets of the Big East at this time, including SMU.
He also reports that there have been no formal invitations to the conference issued at this time. The Big East says they are considering television markets, philosophy and university academic profiles in considering expansion candidates.
