The Lady Mustangs went 1-1 on Saturday to finish up the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.
Coming off of a loss against San Francisco Friday night, SMU lost to Harvard in five sets taking the match 3-2 (25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 18-25, 16-14) in their first game on Saturday morning. Caroline Young led the team with 15 kills while Avery Acker had her second straight double-double with 50 assists and 12 digs.
SMU had another four players with more than 10 kills echoing Friday’s game. The Mustangs beat the Crimson in almost every category including kills, digs and blocks, but they could not get a win.
Later in the evening, the Mustangs beat Northeastern in a match that, again, went to five sets (25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 19-25, 15-12). In the fifth set, senior Maddie Lozano finished the match by dumping the ball into the back right corner and the Mustangs won 15-12.
Caroline Young had her first double-double of the season with 20 kills and 13 digs. She was named to the Aztec Invitational All-Tournament team.
Other leaders of the game include Abby Bybel who had 10 kills and 11 digs, Dana Edwards with 50 assists and 11 digs and freshman Morgan Heise with 16 digs.
Next weekend, the Mustangs head to the College of Charleston Invite to face the host Cougars on 6 p.m. Friday. SMU will face Ball State and Alabama A&M; on Saturday.
The Mustangs will be back home Oct. 4 to host Louisville.
