The great debate

Should marijuana be legalized? People have been debating the topic for years, and it seems to be making an impact. States like Washington and Colorado legalized recreational marijuana use, and many other states have legalized the drug for medical purposes.

States with legalization laws tend to be more liberal, so it’s not surprising that a majority conservative state like Texas has not implemented any laws regarding the legalization of marijuana. However, students at SMU may have their own opinions on the subject. Now, they have a chance to discuss those opinions.

SMU’s debate team will be holding free public debate regarding the legalization of marijuana on Wednesday Sept.17 at 7 p.m. in Umphrey Lee room 241. The one hour debate will feature the two opposing arguments presented by the SMU debate team. Audience members will also be able to join in on the subject and voice their opinions in the debate. At the end, attendees will vote based on their opinions, and the results will be presented.
