The Meadows Symphony Orchestra performed in front of a nearly full Caruth Auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

The concert included pieces by Samuel Barber, Dmitri Kabalevsky, and Jean Sibelius.

The highlight of the concert was when world-renowned cellist Andres Diaz performed the solo for the Kabalevsky piece.

John McAfee, who graduated from Meadows in 2012 and played the cello in the orchestra, believes that having Diaz present is beneficial for the students.

“It’s a really meaningful experience for the students because they get to work with him several times a year,” he said.

The orchestra performs several times throughout the semester, and members have little time to prepare for each concert.

Students worked on the concert repertoire for only two weeks, but it sounded like they have been working on it for years.

“While I’m always impressed with the level of work that members of the symphony bring to the table, I’m not by any means surprised,” McAfee said.

The Meadows Symphony Orchestra’s next concert won’t be until October 31st, but you can be assured that members will be ready for it.
