Basketball and golf programs face NCAA allegations

Basketball and golf programs face NCAA allegations

SMU confirmed Friday that the NCAA is looking into potential rules violations within its basketball and golf programs.

The university released the following statement Friday afternoon:

“SMU has received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA. We are working through our response to them, and have no further comment.”

According to reports by ESPN and The Dallas Morning News, university officials will meet with the NCAA late this spring.

Sophomore guard Keith Frazier has reportedly been ruled academically ineligible as a result of the investigation.

This isn’t the first hardship the SMU men’s basketball program has dealt with this season. Previous obstacles include forward Marcus Kennedy’s academic suspension, which was recently lifted, assistant coach Ulrich Muligli’s indefinite leave of absence, and reserve forward Justin Martin’s decision to pursue a professional career.
