The SMU men’s basketball team was unable to rally in a victory during Wednesday night’s match-up against Oklahoma State University and fell 68-58 in the second overtime at the American Airlines Center.
After a long fight from the Mustangs, OSU took control of the game when Cezar Guerrero opened the second overtime with a mid-range jump shot, a 3-pointer and then a driving layup to seal a 7-point lead at 65-58.
During the match, leading scorer Robert Nyakundi recorded his first double-double of the season and fourth of his career. Nyakundi is currently shooting a C-USA best 48.6 percent this season and has acquired double-doubles in 11 of 12 games.
Behind Nyakundi’s 20-points during The Showcase is transfer Shawn Williams with 11-points for the ball game. Williams left Wednesday night’s game with 4-rebounds and a career-high 3-steals.
Oklahoma State’s Keiton Page led the Cowboys with 27-points while Guerrero finished with 14-points.
Next up for the Mustangs is a home game at Moody Coliseum against Louisiana Tech.
