For the first time in the organization’s history, the Broadway DanceCenter will be hosting auditions for its Professional Semester program. The group from New York City will be on the Hilltop on Saturday, May 2 looking for dancers who wish to be a part of the four-month course.

The Broadway DanceCenter was founded in 1984, and teaches classes in jazz, hip hop, theater, and much more. People who have participated with the center include Madonna, Brooke Shields, and members of NSYNC.

There are over 50 classes a day that range in levels, and the organization has over 80 world-class faculty members. Dancers have plenty of room to work on their own because of the 32,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility.

Those who wish to audition need to bring a headshot and a resume. Because the auditions are multi-disciplinary, participants need to be proficient in ballet, jazz/contemporary, theater, hip-hop, and tap.

Along with Dallas, the audition tour stops in Pittsburgh and Chicago. If people cannot make the audition on May 2, auditions will also be held Sunday, May 3 at the Dallas Power House of Dance, which was voted the best studio in D Magazine.

The Professional Semester program is geared toward dancers who are well-trained and want to go on to the professional level. The age range of students involved in the program includes high school graduates to working professionals.

Recent graduates of the Professional Semester include Julia Udine, who is currently starring as Christine on Broadway in “The Phantom of the Opera,” and Alyssa Lemons, who is a Radio City Rockette.

Some of the benefits that come along from participating in the Professional Semester program include mock auditions that provide real-world experience, and networking opportunities that could help launch a career in dance.
