Potential SMU graduate students gathered in the Collins Center on Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to noon to learn more about their possible new school.
The MBA Preview Day gives an insight into the four graduate programs that the Cox School of Business offers: the full-time MBA, the fast track MBA, the professional MBA, and the executive MBA. Students apply to the program that best fits their career path and goals.
“We want them to learn as much as possible in a short period of time about the advantages of Cox,” said John Roeder, Assistant Dean of Graduate Admissions.
The event is open to all potential students and used to recruit graduate students and help them understand why SMU is the best program for them. Approximately 100 potential students, from all over the United States, attended the event. Although not all students had submitted an application yet, it was an informative morning to let them know why they should.
Tom Perkowski, Assistant Dean, welcomed the group with a speech about the day and giving a taste of the SMU humor by cracking a joke about the football team. He finished with, “ya’ll are great, and even better for a Saturday morning.”
The morning was spent talking to alumni and professors and breaking out into group sessions.
Marci Armstrong, Associate Dean of Graduate programs, led a business case discussion to replicate what a class at SMU would feel like. The students gathered into Crum Auditorium to experience this hands-on student-teacher interaction to fully experience what their average SMU class would entail.
The potential new graduate students also joined the SMU fun by going to the boulevard and football game the night before to see the social side of SMU.
“Its all about them experiencing SMU and learning about SMU,” said Jillian Melton, Associate Director of Admission.
