1. Marc Jacobs creates controversy
Marc Jacobs closed New York Fashion Week this year by showing colorfully clad models wearing sky-high platforms and opulent coats, dresses and accessories. The beauty looks (pastel dyed, faux dreadlocks by Guido Palau, topping each model’s head), however, were the most talked about. While fans accused Jacobs of cultural appropriation through his use of dreadlocks on white models, he was quick to defend his choice and cited rave culture as his inspiration for the collection. Many were upset that he neglected to mention black culture in any of his comments about the collection’s inspiration. Meanwhile The Washington Post also responded in Jacobs’ defense, arguing his right to artistic license.
2. This designer showed a full Hijab collection at NYFW
You may not have heard of Anniesa Hasibuan before, but one look at her unforgettable collection for NYFW, and you’ll remember her name. The Indonesian designer is the first to present a collection in which each look included a hijab, Harper’s BAZAAR reports. The insanely chic collection, which was inspired by Hasibuan’s hometown of Jakarta, received a standing ovation at the end of the show.

3. The VS runway show may be moving to the most romantic city in the world
The sexiest night of the year is reportedly moving to Paris, WWD reports. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which has been held in New York, London, and more will reportedly broadcast later this fall from the city of light. No word yet on the entertainment, but we love to look back on that infamous Ariana vs. angel wing moment.
4. Bruce Weber Exhibit Opens in Dallas
A new exhibition, featuring works by legendary photographer, Bruce Weber, opened at the Dallas Contemporary Saturday night. The collection features examples of Weber’s work with some of fashion’s most famous faces – Kate Moss and Iman included. The exhibition, titled “Far From Home,” is on display from Sept. 18 to Dec. 18.
5. Your study abroad itinerary is here
If you’re studying abroad in Europe this year, you’ve got two new must-see spots. First, if you’re abroad right now and can make a trip to London for the weekend, “Drawing on Style,” an exhibit on fashion illustration will run through LFW, The Cut reports. Second, a new museum in Paris – Le Grand Musée de Parfum, which will focus on the entire history of perfume, will open in December, WWD reports.
