Deep Ellum’s recently closed arcade and milkshake bar, Pharmacy is looking for a new start thanks to a Texas state law.
The hotspot for extravagant and sometimes alcoholic milkshakes closed last week after receiving a notice of law violation from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. According to the Texas Pharmacy Act, only registered, working pharmacies may use the term “pharmacy” in their store name.
Opened just last summer, demand for their milkshakes was already getting too heavy for their space on Elm Street. The owners are taking this time to search for a new location and new name to expand their operations.
Replacing The Pharmacy in the newly vacated space is Select Start Bar and Arcade, set to open this weekend.
Select Start will feature nearly 20 classic and modern games will be available to play, such as Pac Man, Skee-ball, and Guitar Hero. Additionally, visitors will be able to play Xbox and PlayStation games from the televisions mounted in the bar.
The new destination will be specializing in ice cream and ice cream floats. The floats can be accompanied with a variety of options from soda to beer and liquor. The menu will include specialty drinks such as Jack Daniels & Coke float and a Moscow Mule float.
Select Start will be open seven days a week, Monday through Wednesday, 3 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Thursday through Sunday, 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.
